Got Thyme?

Here is a quick hint for the swift help of something in your pantry, when a sore throat or cold and flu symptoms strike.

Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 tsp of dried thyme, and steep for 15-20 minutes.
Add lemon juice, cinnamon and honey and drink hot or warm. (I recommend making 4 cups at a thyme, to have more on hand when you feel the downward slide taking you with it. Some folks like to add a bit of brandy to the brew, to add to the sleep/antimicrobial/enjoyment factor.)

Note: You may even gargle with this for an effective sore throat antidote.

Any thyme is good thyme!

  1. Well, I'll be! And it's right there behind the basil, oregano, dill, and bay leaves. Thanks for taking the thyme to help us get our thyming down to a fine science when these pesky cold symptoms come 'round for yet another thyme!

  2. Hey sister & all, Just make sure it hasn't expired! Plants do biodegrade (gotta love that about them), and can lose their effectiveness. So compost the old and bring in the new! (If they are no longer fragrant they are likely over the hill).

As Simon says, If plant medicines are not working, they are either not the right part of the plant, not the right dose, or they have expired.
